Dirk is a Director at BII and part of the senior Africa leadership team with responsibility for USD1bn+ of investments annually across private equity, funds, and debt in the region. He initially joined BII’s (formerly CDC Group’s) Equity Investment team in London in 2013 before moving back home to Zimbabwe in 2016 to help set up the Africa team. Dirk founded The Africa List – BII’s network of emerging CEOs across 5 countries in Africa, with 500 top companies and 1000 leaders. He also founded Growth Investment Partners (GIP) – a new type of investment company re-imagined and designed from the ground up to provide better matched growth capital for small and medium sized businesses in Africa. GIP launched in Ghana in 2023 and in Zambia in 2025.
Dirk is Zimbabwean where he grew up and lives with his family. He has a BEng in Computing from Imperial College in London and an MBA from Oxford. Before impact investing, Dirk served as an officer in the British Army and led teams on frontline operations around the world.
